A blog is actually the short form of “weblog” and is actually a little over 20 years old.

Blogging has actually undergone some of the most noteworthy evolution from the first blog that was first published by a student that wanted to just write and share his thoughts.

First forward to 2021, blogging is far from over. There are about more than a million blogs worldwide.

You’ve probably had a blog at some point In your life even! Blogging has been incorporated into marketing in the form of Content Marketing that has then continued to evolve into SEO friendly Content marketing. 

With SEO becoming even more popular, the future of blogging is actually quite brighter than you may think, because if companies leverage on trying to get seen at the top of SERPs organically then you will find even more blogs coming up.

So you might be wondering, Is this a train that I want to board? Yes and there are very many sites that will help you to set up a blog. These Include Wix, Squarespace and Blogger  but  the most popular  is probably WordPress.

In this article I will tell you about how you can set up a WordPress blog.

Let’s Start by talking about why setting up a blog using WordPress would be beneficial for you.

Before we get started you’ve probably seen two WordPress platforms that are seemingly different. These are WordPress.org and WordPress.com. Let me break them down for you.

WordPress.org is an open- source Content Management System. This means that it is maintained by a community of developers as op[posed to being owned by one single company. This means that the source is available to all.

WordPress.com on the other hand is a commercial service that uses WordPress.org to power itself up.

 The version that you choose is largely dependent on your preference. Hosting using wordpress.org would require you to learn the more technical aspects like plugins. 

WordPress.com is great for bloggers, photographers, artists, plumbers- almost anyone.

With that in mind, It makes more sense to set up a blog using wordpress.org, because you will have the opportunity to customize it to your liking, you can install plugins and more importantly make money from your blog without any restrictions.

The two things that you will need to set up is 

  • A domain name.

A domain name is the name that people use when they are looking up your website. A good example is seocompany.co.ke.

  • A Web Hosting provider.

With WordPress.org, you will need a house for the files. This is in other terms your website’s home on the internet. You can use host.pinnacle.co.ke

If you are just starting out in blogging, you should choose the basic plan which will basically cover all the important needs of your site’s functioning. You can however choose a more premium package if you are conversant with some more advanced features.

 Once your blog also starts getting more traffic you can also decide to upgrade.

If this is your very first WordPress blog, then you will need to register a domain name which with Host Pinnacle is absolutely free.

Once you have entered your billing details correctly, you can then set your password which is the final step in registering your blog with host pinnacle. You will receive an email for the verification of your account, then vwalaa! You can login to your account.

Congratulations! You are now a proud winner of a new website. Once you login, go to the Cpanel Icon , Scroll down to your Scripts, where You will find the WordPress Icon.  click on It to proceed with the set up.

Once you log into WordPress, Install and then set up a secure URL, choose your language, manage your themes and go through some themes for your blog. This part is pretty self explanatory. Once you are done, click on the Install button once again.

So WordPress software gets presented and functions in two ways.

  • The Front End.

This is the page that is visible for your visitors  when they access your website. The tasks that have been performed in the backend like a customization of your theme will then be visible to you and your visitors on the front end.

It also allows actions like commenting and sharing on other social mediums to be performed.

  • The Back End.

This is the WordPress dashboard which oversees or is the management and functionality of every aspect of your site’s content. If you want to access it you type in “yourwebsite.com/wp-admin” to login using your WordPress username and password that you put when setting up your account.

If you want to access your WordPress dashboard, type “yourwebsite.com/wp-admin” into the address bar of your search engine. Here log in using your WordPress username and the password you set for your account.

WordPress is the easiest website to use when you want to set up a blog. Between WordPress.org and WordPress.com I would suggest that you pick WordPress.org. Do not be intimidated by the whole web hosting aspect of it all, because once you get it, you’re well on your way to making some great blog posts for your content marketing Strategy.
